One of the core values of the Barbados National Oil Company Ltd (BNOCL) is fueling our Nation’s Future. Over the last couple of months BNOCL has opened its doors to accommodate students of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology (SJPI) for their welding classes.
The welding program at SJPI is crucial in preparing the next generation of skilled welders who will play a pivotal role in the development of Barbados. However, a significant challenge arose as the students lacked an appropriate facility for their welding classes. This is where BNOCL stepped in, recognizing the need to provide support for these aspiring welders. BNOCL has had a long partnership with SJPI, as they also offer an annual scholarship for 11 deserving students.
Mr. Brewster, Head of the Division said, “this arrangement has been very beneficial as the students now have an area where they can do the practical component of the course.”
By providing a space for these aspiring welders to learn and practice their craft, BNOCL is not only addressing an immediate problem but also investing in the future of the nation. Welding is a fundamental skill in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and energy production. By ensuring that SJPI students receive high-quality training in welding, BNOCL is contributing to a higher skilled and competent workforce that can drive economic growth and innovation in Barbados.
